REVIEW OF THE MINISTRIES

AT

SECOND MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH

Adult Ushers Ministry

The Adult Ushers Ministry is composed of dedicated servants of God who are twenty-one-years of age or older. The obedient disciples who comprise the Adult Ushers Ministry have a common goal:  the edifying of the body of Christ. The Adult Ushers Ministry seeks to accomplish this through sacrifice, commitment, and service.  The foundation and strength of this ministry is holding fast to the vision and mission of this church and letting go of personal recognition.

Bible Study Ministry

Bible study is the foundation of effective Christian education. Through teaching, the Bible Study Ministry seeks to efficiently equip believers to grow spiritually and develop into mature followers of Christ. Although bible study attendance is a prerequisite for the spiritual development of the congregation, it is a requirement for all associate ministers, deacons, trustees, and ministry leaders.

Church Orientation Ministry

The Church Orientation Ministry serves as an introduction to Christian education and the fundamental principles of Christianity for new and reinstated members.  Church Orientation consists of a president and teachers who teach the new, reinstated, and/or seasoned members the basic principles needed for spiritual growth in an eight week course. Church Orientation prepares its students for integration into the church. It examines topics such as the ordinances of the church, the problem church, and Bible structure. The Church Orientation Ministry is looking to newer horizons as it continues to prepare disciples at this branch of Zion to restructure for a more effective ministry.

Church School Ministry

The Church School Ministry is comprised of a superintendent, an assistant superintendent, a secretary, and several teachers who support the teaching, vision and leadership of the pastor. Teachers teach weekly lessons based on biblical principles. The lessons are   designed so that students may be able to apply what they learning to their daily lives. In doing this, Church School seeks to effectively deliver the teachings of the word of God so that members may become effective disciples of Christ.

Communications Ministry

The Communication Ministry exists to meet the written communication needs of the corporate body of Christ at Second Mount Zion.  The ministry seeks to fulfill the evangelistic imperative and enlarge Second Mount Zion’s circles of influence by maintaining the church’s website as a Christ-honoring, relevant, and engaging vehicle that supports the sharing of the gospel.  Further, it will promote and deepen the fellowship of the congregation by publishing an attractive, informative church newsletter bi-monthly. As the Lord’s disciples, ministry members will follow prayerfully the model of servant hood that He exemplified—the ministry of the towel. Called to take up their crosses daily, they will endure in love the many little deaths that come with fulfilling the ministry. 

Culinary Ministry

The Culinary Ministry is composed of several teams of committed individuals who have been called to use their gifts to serve others. The members of the Culinary Ministry are stewards of God who are answering their call to service, so that they may adhere to the vision of the Second Mount Zion Baptist Church and contribute to the fulfilling of the ministry.

Deacons Ministry

The Deacons Ministry consists of those individuals who are the exemplification of a servant. They are dedicated, loyal supporters of the pastor, chosen to serve the members of the church. Deacons are appointed by God to serve the church in every area of need. The Deacons Ministry exists to maintain a supportive role in the spiritual ministry of the church. Therefore these disciples of God are expected and obligated to live by the example prescribed in Scripture.

Deaconesses Ministry

The Deaconesses Ministry consists of strong women of God who were chosen to serve the members of the church and the community as spiritual leaders. Deaconesses are called to foster spiritual growth and to provide faithful support to the pastor, the deacons, and the congregation. They perform the following acts of service:  the preparation of the sanctuary for the Lord’s Supper, assisting baptism candidates and visiting the sick and shut-ins of the church.  The deaconesses lay the foundation for a ministry that focuses on the will of God and the needs of others-- not on the gratification of individuals or the restraints of tradition.

Discipleship Ministry

The Deaconesses Ministry consists of strong women of God who were chosen to serve the members of the church and the community as spiritual leaders. Deaconesses are called to foster spiritual growth and to provide faithful support to the pastor, the deacons, and the congregation. They perform the following acts of service:  the preparation of the sanctuary for the Lord’s Supper, assisting baptism candidates and visiting the sick and shut-ins of the church.  The deaconesses lay the foundation for a ministry that focuses on the will of God and the needs of others-- not on the gratification of individuals or the restraints of tradition.

Evangelism & Prayer Ministry

The Evangelism and Prayer Ministry is comprised of dedicated servants of God who have truly accepted the call of ministry. The loyal members of the Evangelism and Prayer Ministry although diverse in age, gender, prayer styles, and communication techniques are driven by a united passion for spreading the good news.  Through internalizing and living according to the mission, the Evangelism and Prayer Ministry fulfill the ministry to which God has called them.

Health, Fitness, & Weight Loss Ministry

The Health, Fitness, and Weight Loss Ministry is comprised of men and women who are devoted to the purification and sanctification of their bodies as because they are the temple of God. These self-sacrificing individuals are hearers and doers of the word of God. They accept the call of sacrifice and discipline that has been placed on their lives and find it their personal mission to ensure that the ministry is truly fulfilled at Second Mount Zion.

Hospitality Ministry

The Hospitality Ministry is comprised of warm, dedicated, and pleasant individuals who aim to bridge the gap between the visitors of the church and the members of the congregation. The purpose driven members of the Hospitality Ministry introduce visitors to the mission and purpose of the ministry of Christ at Second Mount Zion. They are excited about meeting the needs of those involved in worship services so that the Lord is glorified

K.J. Carter Educational Ministry

The K.J. Carter Educational Ministry is comprised of faithful, supportive, and diligent individuals who have accepted the call to assure that every child who has the desire for higher education is not hindered by their socio-economic status or financial inabilities. The passionate spirit-filled members of the K.J. Carter Educational Ministry provide the youth with the fundamental necessities for educational success. The K.J Carter Educational Ministry understands and therefore emphasizes the notion that the true fulfillment of any goal is only possible through Jesus Christ. 

Maintenance and Environmental Ministry

The Maintenance and Environmental Ministry exists to ensure that the Church building is always maintained and prepared for worship services, ministry meetings and rehearsals, and presentable to God. The Church building must be adequately preserved in order to truly be an atmosphere for genuine and authentic praise and worship. The relentless members of the Maintenance and Environment Ministry have been called to exemplify the cleanliness and purification of the Body of Christ at this branch of Zion. They seek to ensure that the ministry is not hindered by outward appearances and that God is continuously glorified.

Men’s Ministry

The Men’s Ministry is comprised of strong and obedient disciples of Christ who have been called to embody a Christ-like lifestyle. The Men’s Ministry seeks to adhere to the mission of the church through evangelistic outreach to males in the community in order to fortify the body of Christ. They seek to assist the males of the congregation to grow as disciples and to spread the love of Christ through fellowship. Most of all they strive to strengthen men in their faith and to glorify God through worship.

Missionary Ministry

The Missionary Ministry is comprised of dedicated and passionate servants of God who have a common mission to minister to the deprived members of the congregation while ministering to their spiritual needs. The hard working individuals, who have been called to be missionaries, serve as living examples of the compassion of Jesus Christ. The missionaries at this branch of Zion work daily to fulfill the ministry as they bear the burdens of the troubled and the infirmities of the weak by reaching out to help people in need both inside and outside the congregation.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry consists of all people in the church who minister through song and instruments. The Music Ministry acknowledges that it must be properly equipped and act in accordance with the word of God in order to set and maintain an atmosphere of praise and worship. Spiritually inclined members of this ministry have been called because of their strong conviction and desire to see the people of God healed, set free, delivered, victorious, and SAVED!!

Nurses Ministry

The Nurses Ministry is comprised of dedicated and devoted nurses who are available every Sunday and as needed during worship services to serve the pastor and congregation, so that all mental and physical health needs are met and the proclamation of the word is not hindered. The compassionate nurses at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church have vowed to use their skill and fortitude to comfort and console others so that the love of God may touch all people.

Praise Dance Ministry

The Praise Dance Ministry is comprised of purpose driven individuals who have been called to praise the Lord through music and dance.  The humble praisers and worshippers who are jointly the Praise Dance Ministry offer themselves as a living example of genuine and authentic praise; Christ is glorified when they leap for joy, are moved by the spirit, and dance like David danced.

Preaching And Teaching Ministry

The Preaching and Teaching Ministry is comprised of every disciple who has been called to preach and teach the word of God, this includes the pastor, the ministerial staff, and all teachers. The chosen individuals, who compose the Preaching and Teaching Ministry, have a united mission to always be students of the word so that we may preach the gospel, teach the gospel and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ while saving souls and ensuring that every heart gets to know Jesus in the process.

Retention Ministry

The Retention Ministry is composed of dedicated and committed disciples who are passionate about the mission and vision of Second Mount Zion Baptist Church. The devoted members of the Retention Ministry are diverse in age and gender but have a united mission to retain new members and aid in their growth from membership to discipleship.

Summerfest Ministry

Summerfest is comprised of a workforce of dedicated and loyal teachers and volunteers who selflessly sacrifice their time, skills, and commitment for the enhancement of the spiritual knowledge and academic education of the children of the church and the community. The cohesive leaders who are apart of Summerfest have a united mission to further develop Summerfest so that it continues to be a purpose driven ministry. Summerfest is a ministry that is founded on obedience to the faith; therefore it is guided  by the understanding that only through evangelism, discipleship, fellowship and worship can the Great Commission be accomplished.

Transportation Ministry

The Transportation Ministry is comprised of devoted, selflessly engage in Christ like actions in order to cater to the transportation needs of the congregation. The faithful members of the Transportation Ministry are skilled motorists who are committed to ensuring that each and every member of the congregation engages in worship services and church fellowships despite their transportation impediments.

Track & Field Ministry

The Track & Field Ministry is comprised of hard working and focused members of the congregation who vary in age and gender, but who all have a united passion and love for the Spirit and the Church. These steadfast and determined contenders represent the courage, skill, obedience, and triumph of the Second Mount Zion Baptist Church every time they run a race for the Lord.

Trustee Ministry

The Trustee Ministry consists of faithful, devoted stewards who function in accordance with the Great Commission, striving to introduce a living  Savior to a dying world. The steadfast trustees serve in all areas of the body of Christ and have accepted the call of ministry to ensure that the fiscal matters of the church are properly maintained. The Trustee Ministry endeavors to exceed all expectations while doing the will of God, as exemplified by innate leadership ability and a tendency to always go above and beyond.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry is comprised of every virtuous women of God within this branch of Zion who has been chosen to introduce Jesus to the world so that lives will be saved. The Women’s Ministry seeks to grow the body of Christ by using its circles of influence to lead people to Jesus.  In addition, the ministry will continually encourage every young woman and girl in the church and the community so that the ministry will be fulfilled.

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry is comprised of committed and trained youth ministry leaders who have been called to positively impact the spiritual lives of the youth of the church and the community.  The Youth Ministry seeks to ensure that the youth of the church are integrated into ministry while still maintaining their unique perspective. The Youth Ministry acknowledges that only through an open relationship with the adult members of the church can the mission of the church and the vision of the pastor be successfully attained.   Youth Ushers Ministry: The Youth Ushers Ministry is composed of willing and eager youth ages 5-17 years of age who provide services every third and fifth Sunday of the month. Under the direction of a dedicated and devoted ministry leader, the Youth Ushers act as the doorkeepers of the house of God. The faithful and obedient youth who comprise the Youth Ushers Ministry are indeed children of God.  Their continual commitment and dedication exemplifies their willingness to assist in fulfilling the ministry of this branch of Zion as they have internalized the mission of the church and the vision of the pastor.
